    Akraba evililikleri, ailede çekinik kaldığı için diğer aile üyelerinde görülmeyen bazı hastalıkların veya bazen zaten ailede var olduğu bilinen hastalıkların ortaya çıkmasına neden olabilir. Bir ailede genetik kökenli hastalığın bulunma olasılığı %75 civarındadır. Bu oran oldukça yüksek olup akraba evliliklerinde bebeklerde hastalık görülme riski %50 civarındadır. Bekleyip görmek dışında bir çözüm yok gibi görünüyor.
