    Öncelikle geçmiş olsun. Tiroidektomi yapılacak olan hastaya genel anestezi uygulaması yapılmaktadır. Koah lı hastalarda tabi hastalığı kontrol altında ise yani ilaçlarını düzenli kullanıyor ve hastalık efor kapasitesini çok etkilemiyorsa ameliyattan birkaç gün önce hastaneye yatırılıp bronkodilatatör tedavi dediğimiz akciğerleri açan bir tedavi yönteminin mutlaka uygulanmasında fayda vardır. Ayrıca ameliyat öncesi bir Göğüs Hastalıkları uzmanı tarafından solunum kapasitesi açısından değerlendirilmesi de uygun olacaktır.
