    Hipertansiyon, gebelikte preeklampsi de denilen gebelik zehirlenmesi riskini artırır. Bunun için yüksek riskli gebelikler sınıfında değerlendirilir. Gebeliğe başlamadan önce kan basıncını düzenleyen ilaçlarınız gebelikte kullanılabilenlerle değiştirilmeli ve tansiyonunuzu normal sınırlara çekecek doz ayarlanmalı. Yine kanda yapılan bazı testler ve böbrek doppler ultrasonu ile gebelik zehirlenmesinin ortaya çıkma riski netleştirilmeli. Bütün bu önlemlere karşın gebelikte gebelik zehirlenmesi riski ve bebekte gelişme yavaşlığı olasılığı vardır ve gebelik dikkatle izlenmelidir.
